Is This the Future of Automatic Box Loading and Unloading?

Dextrous Robotics takes a chopstick approach with their robot to move hundreds of boxes an hour.

Independent, posable chopsticks can grasp a nearly limitless variety of objects with the straightforward mechanical design.

DX-1 in Action

In the video above, the DX-1 robot simulates unloading a packed trailer, moving about 150 boxes per hour. This demonstration was done without any path optimization. The system is capable of operating much faster.

In an uncluttered environment, DX-1 has moved 900 boxes per hour, about twice as fast as the 300 to 500 boxes per hour that a person can handle.

DCL's SmartLoader

A Fully Automated Bulk Loading System

DCL's SmartLoader™ is a fully automated, unattended bulk loading station for high speed filling of dry, dusty materials into enclosed vehicles.

A unique, patented vision system makes it all possible.

The SmartLoader™ Vision System increases load out efficiency by minimizing loading cycle times.

HOW IT WORKS

The SmartLoader scans the top of the truck as it enters the station. As the open hatch is detected, a traffic light signals the driver to stop.

The vision system then takes the final hatch coordinates and adjusts the loading spout positioner centering the spout to the hatch. The spout is lowered into the hatch once the scale has captured the vehicle tare weight.

When the filling cycle is complete, the spout raises. The traffic signal and exit gate allow the driver to exit the station.

ADVANTAGES

  • A single spout can cover a loading area of up to 60 feet [18.3 m] by 6 feet [1.8 m] for center and side hatch railcars.
  • A typical truck loading station would cover a loading area of 36 feet [11 m] by 2 feet [610 mm].
  • Dual-direction positioners can reduce costs when identical truck trailers are loaded in the same load-out station.
  • A choice of construction materials allows you to effectively handle all types of products – fine, granular, lumpy, abrasive, and corrosive – and difficult dusty or sanitary applications.
  • The SmartLoader Vision System can be used with any type of DCL spout positioner.
  • The SmartLoader Vision System can be adapted to work with an existing load out system.
